Dr. Murphy has been in private practice optometry in the Sacramento area since 1978. During the last 30 years he has practiced optometry with one philosophy, to provide the highest quality eye care utilizing the latest in ophthalmic equipment and technique, while providing top quality eye wear to his patients in a very friendly and caring environment.
Dr. Murphy moved from Indiana to Sacramento in 1966 and now resides in Roseville, California. He graduated from Highlands High School in 1971. After attending American River College and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Dr. Murphy earned both his Bachelors Degree and Doctor of Optometry from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Murphy has many outside interests mostly centering around sports and his family. He was honored as an All-American athlete while in college and continues to be active in a variety of sports. His passion for sports has led him to volunteer his time as both girls Junior Varsity Basketball and Varsity High Jump coach at Granite Bay High School.
Dr. Heidi Q.T. Pham-Murphy completed her undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at the University of California, Davis. She graduated from the University of Missouri, St. Louis in June 2000 with her Doctorate in Optometry. During this time, she received a scholarship award for her paper on “Orbital Trauma” and was recognized for her ability to provide eye care for children with disabilities. Dr. Pham-Murphy received her externship training at The Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Kansas City and the Missouri Eye Institute.
Dr. Pham-Murphy enjoys practicing full scope optometry. She provides comprehensive eye care to adults and children. She specialized in specialty contact lens fittings for keratoconus, bifocal contact lenses and cosmetic contact lenses. She is board certified for the Treatment and Management of Ocular Diseases and provides pre and post-operative care for LASIK and cataract surgeries.
Taking pleasure in providing the highest quality of personal care to each patient, her goal is to satisfy the visual needs and requirements of each patient. Dr. Lubert Lam was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He obtained his bachelor’s degree at the University of California at Berkeley in Zoology. He received his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1981. Dr. Lam currently works full time in a hospital setting. He joined our team of doctors in 2002 and enjoys being a part of our practice because we utilized the latest ophthalmic equipment and techniques.
Dr. Lam specializes in Laser Vision Correction and Keratoconus as well as provide full scope Optometric Care. Dr. Lam makes it his highest priority to provide the highest quality eye care in our friendly and caring environment.
When not practicing optometry, Dr. Lam devotes his time to his wife and four sons, ages 6-15. He enjoys traveling to enrich the life experiences of his children.
Dr. Jennifer Fong studied Nutrition Science at University of California, Davis and received her Bachelor of Science degree in June 1999. She attended optometry school at the University of California, Berkeley and completed her Doctor of Optometry in May 2003. At UC Berkeley, she worked in the Infant and Toddler Clinic and did research on vision screening methods of young children. Her externship experience was accomplished from 2002 to 2003 at the Mather Field Veteran’s Hospital in Sacramento, the Midwest Vision Source in Oklahoma, and Beijing Medical Hospital in China.
Dr. Fong also worked at an ophthalmology practice comprised of elderly patients having ocular conditions such as cataracts, macular degeneration and glaucoma. She has an excellent background in family care and private optometry practices. Her skills include contact lens fitting as well as diagnosis and treatment of ocular conditions. In May 2004, she enthusiastically joined Dr. Murphy’s practice at Eye Designs Optometry.
Dr. Fong was born and raised in the Sacramento area. She currently lives in the Natomas area with her husband Joseph. Her primary interest in optometry is to give patients the best eye care and vision possible. She especially enjoys working in an environment where friendliness and quality care are emphasized. All new patients and families are welcome to see her for an eye examination. Dr. Fong will be more than happy to answer all your questions regarding your eye health and concerns.
Dr. John L Corpus graduated from the University of California, School of Optometry in June 2006. With his strong optical background as an optician for 6 years, Dr. Corpus joined our team of doctors in 2006. Experiencing the diverse curriculum at the UC Berkeley campus, he has developed interests and skills in low vision and pediatric optometry. He has worked in a variety of different practice settings including Kaiser Permanente, the Veteran’s Hospital Clinics and the Sacramento Society for the Blind.
Dr. Corpus is board certified in the Treatment and Management of Ocular Diseases. He provides comprehensive eye examinations to adults, children and low vision patients. He performs difficult contact lens fittings, cataract and LASIK surgery co-management and acute eye care. Dr. Corpus makes it his highest priority to listen to his patients and provide solutions to their visual needs both at work and leisure. Meeting new and familiar faces each day, Dr. Corpus finds his interactions with patients to be very rewarding.
In his free time, Dr. Corpus enjoys playing the piano and attending social gatherings with his church acquaintances. He currently resides in Vacaville, California with his wife, Sarah Corpus.
Dr. Larisa Johnson graduated from Marquette University with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in 1994. Optometry school brought her out to California and she graduated from UC Berkeley in 1998. After optometry school, Dr. Johnson completed a fellowship program in cornea and contact lenses at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute. She joined us at Eye Designs after practicing in Humboldt County, CA for 8 years.
She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Sacramento Valley Optometric Association and a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry. She has published articles on the topics of contact lens fitting and keratoconus. Dr. Johnson has been with Eye Designs Optometry since 2008.
Dr. Emily T. Huynh completed her undergraduate studies at UC Davis and received a Bachelor of Sciences degree in the Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Neurology, Physiology and Behavior. She continued her studies in Chicago and graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in May 2008 with a Doctorate in Optometry.
Her externship experience includes patient care rotations in California and Illinois. The private practice in San Jose, California allowed Dr. Huynh to provide comprehensive eye care to a diverse group of patients. She also worked with optometrists and ophthalmologists at two Veterans Hospitals: the Westside Jesse Brown VA Hospital in Chicago, and Palo Alto VA Hospital in California.
Dr. Huynh strongly believes that the foundation to quality eye care is a strong doctor-patient relationship. She strives to provide an engaging and comfortable environment where patients can freely discuss their concerns about general eye care. Dr. Huynh looks forward to taking care of your visual concerns.
Dr. Bruce Ritter is a graduate of the State University of New York at Binghamton, New York, the top rated university in the SUNY system. He has a bachelor of Science degree in the biological sciences with a specialty in botany.
Dr. Bruce Ritter completed his professional degree at the State University of New York College of Optometry, where he also served as a clinical instructor, supervising students in their clinical studies. He was on staff at the Cobble Hill Nursing Home in Brooklyn, New York and was in private practice in Long Island, New York. In 1999, after two years as an associate with glaucoma specialist Dr. Gregory Cowan, M.D., Dr. Ritter obtained his New York certification to treat glaucoma. In 2006, he relocated to Sacramento and joined Eye Designs Optometry.
Dr. Ritter has always believed that quality of patient care takes precedence over all other concerns. He enjoys taking time with each patient to explain the nature of their visual problems and answer any questions they may have.
When not engaged in the practice of optometry, Dr. Ritter can usually be found either in his garden, playing his piano or harpsichord. He has performed at the 97th street YMHA in New York City and is a lover of baroque music.
Dr. Stephanie Yoshimura enjoys practicing full scope optometry, including general eye examinations for children and adults, rigid and soft contact lens fittings, and the treatment and management of ocular disease.
Dr. Yoshimura received her B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Davis in 1998, and her Doctor of Optometry from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 2003. In July 2004, she completed her residency in ocular disease/hospital- based optometry at the Sepulveda Veterans Administration Hospital in Northridge, CA.
Dr. Yoshimura is well-versed in the areas of laser vision correction and ocular disease. After her residency, she practiced in a comprehensive ophthalmology setting in the Los Angeles area, alongside a glaucoma specialist and a cataract/refractive surgeon. During this time, she received her certification to treat primary open angle glaucoma.
In her free time, Dr. Yoshimura enjoys the outdoors and spending time with friends and family.
